The carpenter ant is huge sometimes reaching a half inch in length. Carpenter ants are usually black but sometimes have a red tinge. Carpenter ants earn there name by hollowing out wood to create a nest cavity. If they invade your house it could get costly.

The best way to deal with either species is to locate the nest and destroy it. However that is easier said then done. When nest cavities can’t be located the next best thing is to treat with a nonrepelent. These modern insecticides can not be detected by the ants so they walk right through them and bring packets of ant killing molecules back to the nest where they spread rapidly throughout the colony.
