We've been doing bed bug heat treatments for a while and one of the things I've noticed through the years is that Dundalk seems to have more bed bugs than any other town in the area. Both At Once Pest and our competitors have been getting a lot of phone calls from the residents of Dundalk from the very beginning of bed bugs becoming a problem in Baltimore area.

That's quite unfortunate, as all Dundalk residents I have met through the years are good, hard-working people they shouldn't have to deal with this problem. Numerous people in this area are stuck in blue collar jobs, just like their predecessors. They tend to live in smaller places surrounded by a larger than average family. Elder parents often share the household with their working adult children.

So Why Such High Volume of Bed Bug Infestation Cases?

The area is close to the city, relatively densely populated and somewhat compact at the same time. The proximity of homes to each other often results in higher rat and bed bug population.

My Dundalk clients often ask me how much bed bugs reproduce. Compared to other insects, bed bugs are actually slow to reproduce. Adult female produces one egg a day, which takes 10 days to hatch and then 6 weeks to develop into an adult.

But, not to worry. We can help.

There is well-tested technology for dealing with bed bugs - heat treatment. We heat and kills the bugs at 135 degrees Fahrenheit.

There's also a new product on the market - killer spores! We are not kidding. A bunch of PHDs at Penn State University found that there were spores naturally occurring in nature that kill insects. They modified a particular group of spores to kill bed bugs. We've been using these in addition to our heat treatment and, honestly, we think we've gone many months now without a single call back to retreat. At this point we're getting it done with a single application. In reality, it is two-step process - first, we do the heat and then we come back a day later to do the spores. We cannot do both at once because the heat will kill the spores.

So, if you're living in Dundalk and you're having bed bug issues, fear not! There is a solution we can offer - give us a call.
